The Pompano Beach Amphitheater had the privilege of hosting The Violent Femmes’ 2025 tour for two nights. The first night was sold out, a testament to the band’s enduring popularity, especially considering they had to reschedule shows due to a hurricane the previous year. The second night was equally vibrant, with a lively crowd eager to relive the magic of the previous evening.
The concert featured a performance of both their debut album and their second album, “Hallowed Ground,” separated by a short intermission. The night commenced with the performance of “Hallowed Ground.” While it was a more subdued album, it included hits like “Country Death Song” and “Black Girls,” which got the audience up and singing along.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the performance of their self-titled debut album, played in its entirety. The crowd’s energy surged after the intermission, fueled by the electrifying performance of one of their most iconic songs, “Blister in the Sun.”
As the opening riff of “Blister in the Sun” reverberated through the amphitheater, the crowd erupted in cheers and joined the band in a frenzy. The second set was a whirlwind of energy, with the band playing their entire debut album. Songs like “Kiss Off,” “Add It Up,” and the show and album closer “Gone Daddy Gone” kept the crowd on their toes, ensuring that the night was filled with unforgettable moments.
The Violent Femmes’ unique blend of folk-punk sensibilities and Gordon Gano’s distinctive voice created a fun, nostalgic, and communal experience for fans of all ages. The band’s energetic onstage performance allowed everyone to let loose, forget their adult responsibilities, and immerse themselves in the music.
